Teleprompter for QuickTime Screen Recording
QuickTime’s screen recording is simple — and it will capture your notes if they sit in the recorded region. Open GoTeleprompter picture-in-picture outside that area and read while you record.
Open the free web teleprompter. On Chrome, Edge, or Firefox you can already use picture-in-picture — a floating Document PiP window with your scrolling script — so cues sit beside QuickTime on one monitor without a sticky note or second display. Put the full window on another monitor or a phone beside the webcam if you prefer. Share only what the audience should see: GoTeleprompter does not hide from screen capture, so window choice still matters.
Who this setup is for
- Mac users recording quick demos with QuickTime Player
- People who want a free prompt without a paid overlay app
- Teachers and support folks shipping simple how-tos
- Anyone testing a script before moving to OBS or Camtasia
How to use a teleprompter with QuickTime
- Open the web teleprompter in Chrome, Edge, or Firefox and load your script.
- Open picture-in-picture and move the floating window outside the region QuickTime will record — or use a second display / phone beside the camera for talking-head clips.
- In QuickTime, choose New Screen Recording and select the display or portion that excludes the prompter and PiP.
- Start QuickTime, then start teleprompter scroll.
- Stop both when finished. For longer talking-head videos on iPhone, prefer the GoTeleprompter iOS app.

Tips that keep delivery natural
- PiP is convenient on one Mac display if you carefully select a recording portion that excludes it.
- Selecting a recording portion of the screen is safer than capturing the whole desktop.
- GoTeleprompter does not use macOS capture-exclusion APIs — window placement is your control.
- Windows users: use the same idea with the browser teleprompter plus Xbox Game Bar / other recorders.
What GoTeleprompter does and does not do here
The web teleprompter already has desktop picture-in-picture: float a small scrolling script (with play/pause) next to QuickTime — especially convenient for meetings on a laptop. You also get WPM scroll, font and theme controls, mirror H/V, and a read-line cue. PiP works in Chrome, Edge, and Firefox on desktop (not Safari or mobile). Scripts stay on your device. It does not float invisibly over QuickTime, does not use voice scrolling, and does not exclude itself from screen share — share the right window (or keep PiP / the full window off the captured display).

FAQ
- Does GoTeleprompter stay invisible in QuickTime recordings?
- No automatic invisibility. If the script or PiP is in the recorded region, it will appear. Keep it on another display or outside the selected area.
- Does picture-in-picture work with QuickTime?
- Document PiP works in Chrome, Edge, and Firefox on Mac (not Safari). Place it outside QuickTime’s capture selection.
- Do I need a Mac app for this?
- No. Use the free web teleprompter in Chrome or Edge on your Mac (Safari lacks Document PiP). There is no native GoTeleprompter macOS app.
- Can I record with the iOS app instead?
- Yes for talking-head videos on iPhone or iPad — the app scrolls the script over the camera. QuickTime on Mac is for desk screen recordings beside the web tool.
