Teleprompter for Camtasia

Camtasia is for building the lesson; GoTeleprompter picture-in-picture is for delivering the narration without staring at a Word doc mid-record.

Open the free web teleprompter. On Chrome, Edge, or Firefox you can already use picture-in-picture — a floating Document PiP window with your scrolling script — so cues sit beside Camtasia on one monitor without a sticky note or second display. Put the full window on another monitor or a phone beside the webcam if you prefer. Share only what the audience should see: GoTeleprompter does not hide from screen capture, so window choice still matters.

Who this setup is for

  • Instructional designers recording Camtasia courses
  • Corporate trainers shipping software walkthroughs
  • Teachers who script lessons before screen capture
  • Anyone who wants fewer punch-ins on long modules

How to use a teleprompter with Camtasia

  1. Paste the lesson narration into the web teleprompter; break it into section cues if the module is long.
  2. Open picture-in-picture (Chrome/Edge/Firefox) on a display Camtasia is not recording — or put the full window on a second monitor.
  3. In Camtasia, capture the lesson screen or camera as usual — exclude the teleprompter display and PiP.
  4. Match WPM to teaching pace (often 120–140). Pause while you click through UI.
  5. Rehearse once in the web tool, then record the Camtasia take.

Tips that keep delivery natural

  • PiP is convenient for one-PC course desks; still avoid full-desktop capture when the script shares that PC.
  • Section headings on the prompter make punch-ins easier later.
  • For on-camera intros, a phone beside the webcam keeps eye line tight.

What GoTeleprompter does and does not do here

The web teleprompter already has desktop picture-in-picture: float a small scrolling script (with play/pause) next to Camtasia — especially convenient for meetings on a laptop. You also get WPM scroll, font and theme controls, mirror H/V, and a read-line cue. PiP works in Chrome, Edge, and Firefox on desktop (not Safari or mobile). Scripts stay on your device. It does not float invisibly over Camtasia, does not use voice scrolling, and does not exclude itself from screen share — share the right window (or keep PiP / the full window off the captured display).

FAQ

How do I stop Camtasia from recording the teleprompter?
Record a specific display or application window that does not include the script or PiP. A second monitor for GoTeleprompter is the simplest fix.
Does picture-in-picture work with Camtasia?
Yes on Chrome, Edge, or Firefox. Use PiP for private cues; keep it off the Camtasia capture region.
Is there a Camtasia teleprompter plugin?
Not required. GoTeleprompter runs in the browser beside Camtasia with no plugin.
Web or iOS for course creators?
Use the web teleprompter for desk-based Camtasia recording. Use the iOS app when you film talking-head segments on iPhone or iPad.
