What it does
When Hide from Screen Sharing is on, macOS excludes the prompter window from screen sharing, screen recordings, and screenshots in apps that respect the setting. It is on by default, and you can switch it from the prompter toolbar, the menu bar, or Settings.

Set it up for a call
- Open your script in GoTeleprompter for Mac.
- Turn on Float on Top so the prompter stays above the meeting, even in full screen.
- Choose Move Below Camera to dock the script under your webcam.
- Check that Hide from Screen Sharing is on (the eye icon in the toolbar).
- Do a quick test share or recording in your meeting app before going live.
When it may not hide
Some apps that capture your entire screen may ignore the setting and show the prompter. Sharing a single window or app is the safest choice, and a 10-second test share tells you for sure.
Hiding works only in the Mac app. The web teleprompter’s picture-in-picture window and the iPhone and iPad apps are visible if they are on a screen you share.
Good uses

Requirements
- GoTeleprompter for Mac, macOS 26 or later.
- Not available on iPhone, iPad, or the web teleprompter.

FAQ
- Is Hide from Screen Sharing on by default?
- Yes. Turn it off from the toolbar if you want to screenshot or share the prompter itself.
- Will it hide the prompter in every app?
- It hides it in apps that respect macOS screen-capture exclusion. Some apps that capture your entire screen may still show it, so do a quick test share before an important call.
- Does it work on Windows or in the browser?
- No. It is a Mac app feature. The web teleprompter works on Windows and Chromebook, but its picture-in-picture window is visible if you share your whole screen, so share a single window instead.
- Does it work on iPhone or iPad?
- No. Hiding from screen sharing is a Mac feature. On iPhone and iPad, picture-in-picture can float the script over other apps, but it is visible if you share or record your screen.
